Cardiovascular European Research Center (CERC) is proud to announce the publication of the Left Atrial Appendage Academic Research Consortium (LAARC) consensus in the European Heart Journal.
Developed over three years through an international collaborative effort, this landma
rk publication establishes standardized endpoint definitions for transcatheter left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) clinical trials. It represents an important step toward harmonizing future clinical research and strengthening the quality and consistency of evidence in this rapidly evolving field.
Why does this publication matter?
Clinical trials evaluating transcatheter left atrial appendage closure have historically used different endpoint definitions, making comparisons between studies more challenging.
By providing a common framework for defining and reporting clinical outcomes, the LAARC consensus will improve the design, conduct and interpretation of future clinical trials while enhancing the quality, consistency and comparability of evidence generated worldwide.
An international collaborative effort coordinated by CERC
Coordinated by CERC, the LAARC initiative brought together leading clinicians, clinical trialists, industry representatives and regulatory experts from around the world. This multidisciplinary collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing evidence-based cardiovascular medicine through internationally accepted scientific standards.
The publication represents a major milestone for the consortium and for the broader structural heart community, providing recommendations that are expected to support the next generation of LAAC clinical research.
The LAARC initiative is part of the work of the Academic Research Consortium (ARC), an independent international collaboration dedicated to developing standardized definitions and consensus recommendations that strengthen cardiovascular clinical research.
